Welcome to NSFAS Status Check, an independent, unofficial information guide about the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) in South Africa. This site explains, in plain language, how to check your NSFAS application status, what the different status messages mean, and how funding, allowances and payments work.

This site is not NSFAS. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or part of NSFAS or the South African government, and it does not process applications, appeals, payments or funding decisions. For official action on your funding, always use NSFAS itself — through the myNSFAS portal, the official NSFAS website at nsfas.org.za, or the official NSFAS contact channels listed on our Contact Us page.

What you will find here: step-by-step guides to checking your NSFAS status and applying for funding; explainers on allowances, payment dates, the NSFAS app, Coinvest and other payment channels; what “provisionally funded” and other application stages mean; how appeals work; which courses and colleges are funded; and how to get proof of funding.

How we keep it accurate: articles are written as general explainers and are updated when NSFAS publishes new information. Where an article shows figures or dates, it labels the year they belong to (for example, 2026 figures), because funding amounts and dates change each cycle. Where a figure for the next cycle has not been published yet, the article says so instead of guessing. Still, funding rules and dates can change — if a decision or deadline matters to you, confirm it with NSFAS directly before acting on it.

Trust and transparency matter here. This site does not ask for your NSFAS password, ID number or banking details, and you should never share those with any unofficial website. The site is supported by advertising, which is explained in our Privacy Policy.
